By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Three Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) players were again chosen for the Concacaf League C Best XI for the October window, with Jordy Polanco earning a second consecutive nomination.
Polanco was joined by offensive midfielder Orlando Velasquez and forward Krisean Lopez, who made the list for the first time.
Belize topped Group B over Anguilla and Turks and Caicos Islands with 12 points from four victories, scoring nine goals and conceding none. With an impressive performance, Belize regained their re-entry into League B and earned a Concacaf Gold Cup Play-In against League A’s French Guiana.
Concacaf said that while many players stood out with big performances, those who made the Top XI “rose to the top at their respective positions.”
“Polanco scored the match-winning goal in the 3-nil victory against Turks and Caicos Islands. The Belize midfielder had five total shots and provided five steals to help Belize finish with zero goals conceded in the group stage,” Concacaf said of Belize’s top scorer, who netted four goals in the September and October windows.
“Velasquez scored the match-winning goal in the 1-nil win over Anguilla to help Belize clinch first place in Group B. With two steals, he also contributed to the best defense of the group stage with zero goals allowed,” Concacaf said of one of Belize’s newest outstanding players. Velasquez was one of Port Layola’s best players in their recent participation in Concacaf’s Central American Cup.
“López was influential with the match-winning assist in the 1-nil win over Anguilla and scored in the 3-nil victory over Turks and Caicos Islands to help Belize finish with a perfect 4-0-0 record atop Group B,” Concacaf said of Lopez, who has become a regular starter with the BMNT.
Last month, Polanco was joined by Belize captain and goalkeeper Charles Tillett and Gabriel Ramos after noteworthy performances earned them being named to the region’s top team.
