By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño this morning read a motion in support of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Belize is one of just 14 countries worldwide that maintains diplomatic relations exclusively with the ROC and the countries have partnered on multiple projects, with Taiwan supporting Belize’s budget.

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) continues to claim Taiwan as it’s own and has consistently blocked it from participating in international fora.

Leader of the Opposition Tracy Taegar-Panton gave “unequivocal support” to the motion, saying we have long stood with Taiwan as it seeks to be recognized and supported.
