By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize is once again present at the regional decision‑making table as Gerald Henry Jr, one of the country’s most respected refereeing figures, takes part in the Annual UNCAF Heads of Referee Department Meeting, held February 4–5, 2026, in San José, Costa Rica.
Henry, who hails from the Cayo District, earned national recognition in his younger days as one of Belize’s top referees. His strong command of the laws of the game, consistent decision-making, and calm presence on the field made him a standout official across domestic competitions and regional assignments.
Now serving in a leadership capacity within Belize’s refereeing structure, Henry continues to contribute to the development of match officials and the strengthening of refereeing standards nationwide. His participation in the UNCAF meeting reflects Belize’s ongoing commitment to being part of the conversations that shape officiating across Central America.
The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) emphasized the importance of maintaining representation at the international level, noting that involvement in these technical discussions helps elevate local standards and ensures Belize remains aligned with regional and global best practices.
