By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Team’s 9–0 loss to Haiti in Belmopan was part of a wider pattern in the opening round of the 2025/26 Concacaf W Qualifiers. Across the region, a number of matches ended in double-digit scorelines, highlighting the gulf between established football nations and developing programmes.
Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz delivered the most emphatic result, crushing Dominica 18–0 after leading 10–0 at halftime on Saturday, November 29. That same day, Mexico hammered St Vincent and the Grenadines 14-0 while Panama punched Curaçao 6-1 on Sunday.
The other Group D match in which Suriname downed Anguilla 3-1, was rather even by comparison.
For Belize, comparisons to other blowouts offer no consolation. Haiti’s dominance was total, with Mondesir and Dumornay leading the scoring and the stats showing 75% possession and 21 shots to Belize’s 2. The BWNT must now regroup for their remaining fixtures against the Dominican Republic, Anguilla, and Suriname.

- Group D: Haiti crushed Belize 9-0.

Perspective Matters — But So Does Progress
While the numbers underline the challenges faced by smaller football nations, Belize’s focus must now shift to growth, tactical adjustment, and pride in representation. The road ahead is steep, but the journey continues.
