By Aaron Humes: In a night filled with nostalgia and pride, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, known simply as Shyne, captivated audiences at the Kings Theatre on Saturday with a powerful comeback concert that celebrated his enduring impact on the hip-hop scene. The event, attended by a vibrant crowd of over four thousand, showcased not only Shyne’s musical prowess but also the strong sense of community among the Belizean diaspora in New York.
As the night unfolded, attendees proudly waved their Belizean flags, igniting an atmosphere of joy and unity. “One of my favorite moments of the night was seeing all those beautiful Belizean people waving their Belizean flags with such great pride and euphoria!” the performer wrote on social media.
The atmosphere in the Kings Theatre was electric, with fans celebrating not just the artist but also the rich culture and heritage of Belize. “Like di entire NY Diaspora mi deh bout! Love unu, cheers to us,” Shyne added in his social media post.
Shyne, who rose to fame with his self-titled debut album released 25 years ago, performed a selection of tracks from his early career. Despite the passage of time, fans embraced the opportunity to rap along with him, showcasing the timeless quality of his music.
It follows honors from the Borough President of Brooklyn, New York, giving Shyne the key to the borough and declaring April 25 “Shyne Day” in his honour and a series of appearances in the U.S. since his departure from the leadership of the United Democratic Party near the end of 2025.
On his return to Belize today, Barrow expressed to Channel 7 News what it was like as a 47-year-old performing songs written on the cusp of adulthood: “I’ve never lost that passion, I’ve never lost that conviction – in fact, that 19-year-old is what got me to enter the House of Representatives, got me through all that I’ve gotten through, is what gave me the perseverance after I lost my seat, whether fair or not in the House of Representatives, to keep going – because that young man overcame so much.” He added that, having gone from a broken home to becoming a millionaire at 18, before going to jail for a decade, he can do anything because of who he is, and his celebration is for those here who want to follow in his footsteps.
Next is continued preparation of his comeback album and a planned world tour.
