By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Carlos ‘Lep’ Linares and Cristian Lopez finished ninth in the non-stop 120-mile 76th Au Sable River Canoe Marathon 2024 in Michigan in the United States. The Au Sable Marathon is a non-stop 120-mile, C-2 (Two Person) canoe race that started on the Au Sable River in Grayling , Michigan, on Saturday, July 27, and ended on Sunday, July 28 at the mouth of the Au Sable River along Lake Huron in Oscoda, Michigan.
Twenty-six-year-old Linares and 24-year-old Lopez were 15 after the first timing location and improved to ninth by the eighth, eighth during the ninth, tenth, and 11th locations, dropped to ninth by the end of the 12, eight again by the 13th, and ninth again in the 14th and 15th.
Linares and Lopez were clocked at 15 hours, 18 minutes, and 55 seconds (15:18:55, 43:29 behind winners Mike Davis and Guillaume Blais, who completed the 120-mile race in 14:35:26.
They were third in the All-Michigan Category since they registered as a Michigan team.
The Au Sable River Canoe Marathon has been held since 1947.
