By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Four rising footballers – Aazan Smith, Ahmad Neal, Godfrey Card, and Moses Leslie – from the Shane Orio Football Academy are currently in Costa Rica for a two-week training camp with Puntarenas FC—an opportunity set to sharpen their skills and expand Belize’s footballing horizons.
The international training is part of founder Shane Orio Moody’s enduring commitment to youth development. Moody-Orio, one of Belize’s most decorated footballers, played for Puntarenas FC from 2005 to 2009 before continuing his professional career with Marathon in Honduras and Suchitepéquez in Guatemala. He also featured prominently for Belizean clubs, Kulture Yabra, Verdes FC, and Belmopan Bandits, during a career that extended until 2020.
Reflecting on the academy’s progress, Orio Moody wrote on the official Shttps://twitter.com/Concacaf/status/1159293751937904640?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1159293751937904640%7Ctwgr%5E361e1ebd1c9aacc36017578d26aab7e92cad6984%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.co.cr%2Ffutbol%2Fcosta-rica%2Fnota%2F_%2Fid%2F10425533%2Fque-se-hizo-shane-orio-querido-exportero-no-perdio-pista-ascenshane Orio Football Academy Facebook page on 24 July 24:

The trip is not only a technical step forward for the young players—it’s a symbolic moment for Belizean football, as Orio Moody returns to the club he once helped to Central American glory.

The initiative marks a crucial step in linking Belize’s local talent with regional opportunities. With the mentorship of a seasoned international like Orio Moody, grassroots development continues to gain traction far beyond the country’s borders.
The players are expected to return with new skills, greater confidence, and a deeper understanding of the professional demands of the sport.
As a goalkeeper, Orio Moody earned international recognition after debuting for Belize in 2000 against Guatemala. He appeared in multiple World Cup qualifiers and in the 2013 Concacaf Gold Cup, facing rivals like Mexico and the United States.
Now serving as an executive member of the Football Federation of Belize, Moody-Orio remains committed to creating pathways for Belizean youth to thrive—on and off the pitch.
