By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean National Team player Herdie Castillo has signed to play collegiate volleyball with Providence University College in Manitoba, Canada. In reporting the signing, the BK Sports Group described her as “our very own National Team Rising Star” and noted that she becomes “the first international recruit in their program’s history.”
Providence University College describes itself as “a leading Canadian Christian university located in the province of Manitoba,” with a 100‑acre main campus in Otterburne and an additional site in downtown Winnipeg. According to the institution, its programs are designed to provide students with “the spiritual and educational tools needed to become a difference‑maker.”
Castillo, who is from Hopkins Village and stands 6’3”, has already arrived in Canada to begin her transition into both academic and athletic life. According to BK Sports Group, she will pursue a degree in Business while playing volleyball for the Pilots.
She might see action as early as Saturday, as the Providence Pilots enter the final stretch of their season.
Castillo has been part of Belize’s national volleyball setup and is regarded as one of the country’s most promising young prospects. Her move marks a significant step for her career and adds to the growing number of Belizean athletes competing in North American collegiate programs.
