By Zoila Palma: Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca told the media that following developments near Venezuela over the last few months, the Belizean students studying in Venezuela returned home over the Christmas holidays.
“I think we had my understanding is we had about five students who were studying in Venezuela, in different fields. I think most of them were on scholarships from Venezuela, some full scholarships, some partial scholarships. But all five students, because of the events over the last few months, we were in discussion with them and in contact with them, our ambassador, Annie Lou Burns. And so they all came to Belize over the Christmas holidays,” Fonseca said.
In addition, Minister Fonseca says that the students will not be returning to Venezuela until it is safe for them to return.
