By Zoila Palma: Urbane Blades Chicago, an internationally recognized barbershop brand founded by Belizean entrepreneur Darren Roca, is set to host a community barber outreach initiative on April 4 as part of the Rancho Dolores Jungle & River Festival.

The event will feature a free haircut drive for children and a barber entrepreneurship workshop aimed at strengthening skills and opportunities within the local barbering community.

Roca, whose family roots trace back to Rancho Dolores and Willows Bank, described the initiative as a meaningful way to give back.

He noted that the outreach reflects his commitment to reinvesting in the communities that shaped his family’s history, bringing the experience and standards developed abroad back to Belize to support youth and local professionals.

The day’s activities will begin with a Barber Empowerment Workshop from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., where participants will receive training in sanitation practices, professionalism, marketing, and business management.

This will be followed by a Free Kids Haircut Drive from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering complimentary grooming services to children aged 17 and under on a first-come, first-served basis.

The initiative will include participation from an honorary Urbane Blades Belize team, featuring barbers from across the country, including apprentices, experienced shop owners, and a female barber.

Participants will be compensated and provided with professional tools to support their trade.

Supported by Clear Boat Belize, the outreach forms part of a broader effort to promote entrepreneurship, youth development, and community engagement during the festival, which also aims to raise funds for local projects and highlight the Spanish Creek Wildlife Sanctuary.
