Belizean killed in Tulum, Mexico identified as Shawn Billary originally from Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Belizean authorities in Mexico have confirmed the identity of Friday night’s murder victim in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico as 22-year-old Shawn Billary of Belize City.

As we previously reported, Billary and an American woman were caught in a crossfire thought to have originated from a conflict among drug dealers, according to Quintana Roo state prosecutors.

Billary was alleged to have been discovered with cocaine and pills, leading authorities to suspect his involvement in narcotics distribution. The American woman, also deceased in the incident, was determined by prosecutors to have had no ties to drug trafficking, indicating that she might have been an innocent bystander caught in the violence.

Billary’s identity was confirmed by family in Belize when contacted by Mexican authorities with the assistance of Ambassador Oscar Arnold. He is reported to have been wanted in Belize for a 2021 murder. He was a father of one daughter and lived in Mexico for six years.

Mexican authorities have pinpointed suspects related to the shooting and are actively searching for them.
