By Zoila Palma: On August 13, 2025, Belizean journalists joined colleagues from across Latin America and the Caribbean for a special visit to the Parlamento Latinoamericano y Caribeño (Parlatino) in Panama City.
The visit offered participants an opportunity to engage with one of the region’s most influential institutions in shaping legislation and fostering international cooperation.
Parlatino plays a central role in developing model laws and promoting shared goals among its 23 member states.
Through its work, the body influences national agendas, advances regional integration, and provides a platform for dialogue on pressing social, economic, and political issues.
The visit formed part of Proyecto Revisa, a regional initiative dedicated to strengthening journalistic collaboration and supporting democratic transparency.
By connecting media professionals across borders, the project seeks to enhance reporting on governance, accountability, and freedom of the press.
Journalists expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about Parlatino’s role in policymaking and to contribute to meaningful conversations on democracy in the region.
