By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s fencing delegation gave a committed performance today at the 12th Central American Games in Guatemala, competing with heart and focus against regional rivals. Though the team did not advance to the finals, their effort and sportsmanship stood out.
Luis Preston, Jahiem Hope, and Christian Hope represented Belize under the guidance of coach Frank McKenzie. Each athlete faced tough competition in their respective bouts, demonstrating resilience and skill throughout the day.
While the results didn’t yield a spot in the medal rounds, the team’s presence marked an important step for Belize in a discipline still growing nationally. Their participation adds to the country’s active involvement in eight sports today, including swimming, tennis, men’s softball, beach volleyball, judo, road cycling, fencing, and men’s volleyball.
