Belizean Educators needed in the United States

Belizean teachers interested in teaching preschool, elementary, secondary education, science, mathematics, including special education for early learners in the United States can now apply through Participate Learning. During an in-person information session led by Participate Learning’s International Recruitment Director, Jeff Seaby in Belize City, on March 7th, dozens of teachers showed up eager to learn more about the exchange program, which offers the opportunity to teach abroad for up to five years.

For those who are still interested but could not attend the meeting, applications remain open. To apply click here:: https://www.participatelearning.com/teach-in-the-usa/.

Seaby shared that it was a very productive meeting with over 40 teachers attending the session held at the Ramada Hotel by Wyndham Princess. Seaby praised the professionalism of Belizean teachers and expressed his delight at the country’s beautiful landscape.

To apply, interested educators must have at least two years of full-time teaching experience after obtaining a university degree (bachelors degree). They must be currently employed, possess a valid driver’s license, and be available to reside in the United States for a minimum of two years. The teaching positions will be in schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The contracts allow legal residence and work in the United States for a minimum period of two years, with working conditions equivalent to those of U.S. public school system teachers. Currently, the program is placing particular emphasis on recruiting Special Education teachers, a field considered in high demand because of its complexicity and the specialized support requiredd for diverse learners.

Seaby explained that Participate Learning oversees the recruitment process, there are no fees, and guides the teachers through every step of the process. This includes from the moment of application to obtaining the J-1 visa required for the program, to ensuring a smooth transition into the U.S. classrooms.  «We are like a family and teachers can always reach out to us for any assistant. They are never alone,» Seaby remarked.

The recruitment is not expected to affect the Belizean education system as just a handful of teachers are selected. After completing their time teaching in the U.S., these teachers then return to Belize to share with their colleagues and Belizean students all the new knowledge they have acquired teaching in the U.S.

The benefits of the succesful applicants include earning salaries aligned with the U.S. public school standards, ranging from US$41,000 to US$55,000 (BZ$82,000 to BZ$110,000) per year. Other benefits include health insurance, airfare, and family relocation support. There is also the possibility of traveling with a spouse and minor children.

According to Ronald Ramírez, Recruitment Manager for Latin America, the program not only opens doors to professional growth in the U.S. but also enriches teachers’ pedagogical skills within multicultural learning environments. He noted that more than 60 Belizean educators have taken advantage of this opportunity, highlighting the strong interest in international teaching experiences.
