By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclist Derrick Chavarria made history on Sunday, June 8, by winning his second consecutive race at the prestigious Saint Francis Tulsa Tough event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. Competing in the McElroy River Parks Criterium, Chavarria displayed his strength and determination in the Category 1/2 race, further exposing Belize’s presence in international cycling.
Following his victory in the FC Tulsa Arts District Criterium on Saturday, Chavarria continued his dominance on the challenging course, crossing the finish line first and making Belizean fans proud. The win marks another significant accomplishment for the young rider, who competed in Tulsa Tough for the first time.
“Congrats to Derrick for his back-to-back stage win at Tulsa Tough today! Well done Baby Chav!” the Cycling Federation of Belize said, celebrating Chavarria’s back-to-back triumphs.
Chavarria’s two victories come after Jyven Gonzalez’s impressive performance on Friday, June 6, when he secured first place in the Category 1/2 McNellie’s Group Blue Dome Criterium. With both Gonzalez and Chavarria making a strong impact, Belize is increasingly establishing itself in international cycling.
The Saint Francis Tulsa Tough, a renowned three-day cycling event that is part of the American Criterium Cup, is known for its fast-paced races and technical courses that attract top cyclists from across the globe. Chavarria’s and Gonzalez’s latest wins again highlight their potential and the bright future ahead for Belizean cycling.
With back-to-back victories, Chavarria continues to build momentum, leaving fans eager to see what comes next for the rising Belizean star.
