By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In a celebration of athletic prowess and dedication, Belizean cycling legends John Miguel, Kenrick Halliday, Anthony Hutchinson, Joslyn Chavarria, Sr., and others will be honoured at a special awards night. This event, titled ‘A Nite of Cycling Legends’ and put together by Bike Chat and Oswald Bowman, promises to be a memorable evening,
The awards night is set to take place on Saturday, January 4, at the Princess Hotel Queens Room in Belize City.
Attendees can purchase tickets in advance for $75 or at the gate for $100.
The event will feature live music by Super Furia Band, Mr. Frisko, and Bigga Ford, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the night.
This event is not only a celebration of the achievements of these cycling legends but also an opportunity for the community to come together and honour the contributions of these athletes, who excelled in their day, particularly in the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classics, to the sport of cycling in Belize.
John Miguel, a remarkable cyclist, won the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic four times, in 1960, when he tied with Duncan Vernon, and in 1964, 1965, and 1968.
Kenrick Halliday matched this impressive feat by also winning the Classic four times, in 1974. 1975, 1977, and 1978.
Anthony Hutchinson triumphed in the race twice, securing his victories in 1972 and 1973.
Joslyn Chavarria, Sr. had a notable performance in 1981, finishing second to the late Alpheus Williams.
