By Zoila Palma: The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) for January 2025 reached 50.5, marking a 5.2% increase from 48.0 in December 2024, the Statistical Institute of Belize noted.
This is the first time since the Statistical Institute of Belize began tracking the CCI that consumer sentiment has crossed into optimism, indicating a positive shift in views on the economy and personal financial situations.
The rise in January was driven by improvements in the ‘Present’ and ‘Durable Goods’ sub-indices. The ‘Present’ financial situation component saw a 12.9% increase, from 44.6 to 50.4, while the ‘Durable Goods’ index rose by 5.9%.
Overall, the January 2025 CCI highlights growing optimism in consumer sentiment, especially regarding current financial conditions and the timing for major purchases.
