Belizean boxer Amir ‘KingMir’ Rudon ready to battle Guatemalan Juan ‘El Toro’ Méndez in Belize City on Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Everything is set for Belizean boxer Amir ‘KingMir’ Rudon to put his 6-0 undefeated Super Lightweight record on the line against Guatemalan pugilist Juan ‘El Toro’ Méndez in the main bout of an international boxing card at Swift Hall in Belize City on Saturday night.

At the weigh-in on Friday at Bird’s Isle in Belize City, Rudon stopped the scale at 139.7 pounds while Méndez checked in at 140.1 pounds.

Undefeated Rudon sports six victories, three by knockout, and no losses, while Méndez goes into the fight with eight victories, seven by knockout, and three losses.

Both will be going at each other in a six-round Super Lightweight (140 pounds) bout, which is expected to start at about 9:00 pm. The four-fight card starts at 7:00 pm.

In the first professional bout of the night, Eric Javier Arriola of Honduras, fighting out of Orange Walk, will battle Rolando Rodríguez from Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico, in the Super Bantamweight category (130 pounds). According to Belize Boxing Development Council Commissioner Javier Romero, Arriola is undefeated with five wins, all by knockouts. He has not tasted defeat yet. Rodríguez has one win, three losses, and one draw.

At the weigh-in, Rodríguez was at 116.8 pounds and Arriola at 118.6 pounds.

The amateur card features Belizean boxers against Mexican boxers: Julian Pacheco Jr. of Caye Caulker against Mexican Rodolfo Lezma from Chetumal in the first fight in the Super Featherweight category (130 pounds) and Belize City’s Kyle Lewis against Chetumal’s André Vásquez in the Super Lightweight category (140 pounds).

The boxing card is organized by Tres Reyes Promotions from San Ignacio and sanctioned by the Belize Boxing Development Council.

Tickets for the fight are $25 for general admission, $50 for VIP, and $75 for ringside. Children will pay $10. Tickets can be purchased at Cayo CET, Cucina 904, or ITVET in Belize City. You may also call 622-7031.
