By Zoila Palma:  Starting May 6, 2025, 11 Belizean participants are taking part in a three-day “Training of Trainers on the Diversification of Honey By-Products” in Mérida, Yucatán.

The program is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, in collaboration with the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) and the Climate Resilient Agriculture Project (CRESAP).

The group includes leaders from beekeeper organizations, educators, and ministry officials.

The training focuses on climate resilience and aims to teach participants how to create new honey-based products like propolis, beeswax, and royal jelly, enhancing income opportunities for Belize’s beekeeping sector.

“A key focus of the training provided by the CRESAP project is climate resilience. The honey industry plays a crucial role in food security and resilience,” the Ministry noted.

Participants will receive kits to help them replicate the training with cooperatives across Belize, supporting long-term growth and sustainability in the honey industry.
