By Aaron Humes: The Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA) has announced the official delegation set to represent Belize at the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay. The games will run from August 9 to 23, showcasing the talents of young athletes from across the Americas.
Leading the delegation is Kaya Cattouse as the Chief of Mission. Team Belize will compete in five disciplines: swimming, cycling, athletics, canoe sprint, and weightlifting.
Davia Richardson, fresh off her appearance at the World Aquatics Championships, is competing in the 100-metre Butterfly (August 10-11), 100-metre Freestyle (August 12), and 50-meter Freestyle (August 13), coached by Marella Richardson. Cyclist Derrick Chavarria is participating in the Road Race on August 17, coached by Eduardo Villanueva.
In track and field, Brooklyn Little is competing in the Long Jump on August 18, coached by Royston Lyttle. Elvin Penner leads Daniel Cruz in the K1 1000M (Aug 20) and K1 500M (Aug 21) canoe sprint and weightlifter Miguel Marin, spearheaded by Lucien Pollard, competes in the 98-kilogram category on August 23.
The announcement by the Olympic Association concluded: “The Junior Pan American Games offer a vital platform for youth
athletes to gain international experience, develop their skills and uphold the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. BOCGA wishes the entire delegation the very best as they compete among the Americas’ most promising young athletes.
