By Breaking Belize News Staff: A late-night dispute over money has landed a Belizean American man behind bars after he was accused of attacking a woman with an ice pick.
The accused, Larry Flowers, 46, a resident of East Canal, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read a single charge of harm. Flowers pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, concerns were raised about Flowers’ nationality, prompting the court to impose strict bail conditions. Flowers told the court that although he intends to return to the United States, he has been living in Belize for the past 12 years with the mother of his kids, caring for children they share.
Bail was offered in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety, with conditions that Flowers surrender all travel documents, refrain from applying for new ones, and not leave the country without court permission. He was also ordered not to contact the virtual complainant and to remain at least 25 feet away from her. Unable to meet bail, Flowers was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February 27, 2026.
Police say that on Saturday, January 17, 2026, around 10:12 p.m., Flower’s common-law wife, a cook of #96 East Canal, reported the incident to the Gender-Based Violence Unit. She alleged that earlier that evening, Flowers asked to borrow $20. She said she handed him her ATM card to withdraw cash, but upon his return he was $50 short of the amount requested.
She further alleged that she later gave Flowers a $50 note, instructing him to take $20 and return the change. About an hour later, when she asked for her change, Flowers became upset, pulled an ice pick, made stabbing motions toward her stomach, and told her to “get the f— away from in front of me.”
The woman said that when Flowers realized she was calling the police, he fled the scene on a bicycle. Police conducted checks in the East Canal area but were initially unable to locate him. Flowers was detained the following day, Sunday, January 18, 2026, and subsequently charged.
A statement was recorded from Baptist requesting court action.
