By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belizean American man and his American girlfriend faced court this week after being found with drug paraphernalia and cannabis in Belize City’s Kings Park area. Mark Kelvin Arnold Jr., 35, and his girlfriend, Clarissa Haidi Jackson, 34, a behavior analyst, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3 to respond to two charges: possession of utensils for drug use and possession of controlled drugs.
Police allege that on Friday, October 25, at the couple’s residence on 6th Street, authorities discovered a six-inch black, blue, yellow, and silver pipe, suspected to be adapted for cannabis use, along with 59.05 grams of marijuana.
Arnold and Jackson, who pleaded not guilty, were granted bail of $1,000 each with several conditions. The court mandated that their sureties be Belizean, they surrender their passports, and refrain from travel outside Belize without court permission. The couple also informed the court that they are required to check in monthly to extend their legal stay in Belize, for which the Magistrate noted they must seek permission to access their passports.
While Jackson was able to secure bail and avoid an overnight stay, Arnold was briefly remanded to Belize Central Prison until he posted bail. The couple is due to reappear in Belize City Magistrate Court on November 29, 2024.
