By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize are off to a good start at the Central American Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by AFECAVOL in Guatemala City. The Belize Women’s National Volleyball Team secured a 3–1 win over Honduras in their opening match of the tournament.
The Belizean squad showed grit and composure throughout the four-set battle at the Gimnasio Teodoro Palacios Flores, taking the first two sets 27–25 and 25–17. Honduras rallied to claim the third 26–24, but Belize responded with a determined finish, sealing the match 25–23 in the fourth.
Earlier in the day, Costa Rica also opened with a win, defeating El Salvador 3–1 (25–21, 19–25, 25–13, 25–20) in the first match of the tournament.

Belize’s victory places them in a strong position in Group B play as they prepare for two more matches in the preliminary round. Belize face Guatemala on Saturday, October 18 and Panama on Sunday, October 19.
Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Nicaragua make up Group A, while Belize, Honduras, Panama, and Guatemala compete in Group B. The two top teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Monday, October 20. The other teams will playing for ranking from fifth to seventh.
Final ranking matches, including the bronze and gold medal games, will be played on Tuesday, October 21.
Belize’s win over Honduras marks a confident start as the team aims to build momentum and contend for a podium finish in the days ahead.
