Belize Women’s National Team player Elva Nunes named Tennessee Community College Athletic Association Player of the Week, scores 14 goals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Women’s National Team player Elva Nunes, who joined Motlow State Community College in August, has been named the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Region 7 Player of the Week after scoring eight goals and making one assist in one week.

Nunes had previously scored five goals before this remarkable week and followed it up with one more, bringing her total to 14 goals. She has also made four assists.

“Congratulations to Elva Nunes for winning TCCAA Player of the Week,” Motlow State Community College announced in a social media post on Tuesday.

“She had 8 goals and 1 assist this week! Well done, Elva!”

“Our very own Elva Nunes! We are so proud of you!” the Football Federation of Belize echoed in a social media post on Tuesday.

Nunes, who is the daughter of Belize Men’s National Team Assistant Coach and San Pedro Pirates Head Coach Jorge Nunes, scored five goals in Motlow’s 9-0 win over Central Georgia Technical College on September 25 at Motlow State. She followed that with a hat trick in a 7-0 victory against Southwest Tennessee Community College at Motlow on Sunday, September 29. Nunes then added one more goal in their 7-0 triumph over Dyersburg State Community College on Monday, September 30 at Dyersburg.

Before these nine goals, she scored her first goal on August 31 in Motlow’s 1-0 win over Lewis & Clark Community College. On September 2, Nunes scored twice against Southwest Tennessee Community College. On September 14, she increased her tally to five by scoring twice against Harford Community College.

These five goals were followed by nine more in three games over six days from September 25 to September 30.
