By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Team achieved the perfect undefeated 6-0 record closing their participation in Concacaf League C beating Aruba 1-0 at the Trinidad Guillermo P. Stadium in Oranjestad, Aruba on Monday.
Mikhaila Bowden scored from a free kick in the 85th minute to unravel a difficult to penetrate Aruban defence to gain the win that seemed to be getting away. Bowden topped Belize’s scorers, along with Khalydia Velasquez, with five goals.
The Belizean women won six consecutive matches on their way to getting their promotion ticket to Concacaf League B.
Belize’s campaign started on Independence Day, September 21, when they beat Aruba 2-0 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. Four days later, on September 25, they dispatched Bonaire 3-0. They continued their impressive form with a 6-0 beating of Turks and Caicos Islands away on October 26, and a 3-0 victory in the return match in Belmopan. Then, last Thursday, November 30, Belize vanquished Bonaire 5-1 at Rincon.
Aruba, the BWNT’s toughest opponents, put up a good fight but Bowden’s goal pulled Belize through for the flawless 6-0, scoring 20 goals and conceding only one.
Coach Wayne Casimiro made four changes. In the first half, he inserted Nigelee Myers for Vaylene Lambert in the 27th minute. Ceneia Apolonio substituted for Jennisha Scott and Carlene Tillett went in for Shamika Lambey in the 67th. In the 88th, Karisha Coe entered for Roshanny Narváez.
Group A closes play with Bonaire visiting Turks and Caicos. Bonaire are leading 2-0 in the match started at 3:00 pm (2:00 pm Belize Time).
On Tuesday, December 5, the BWNT start their journey back, via Panama City and Cancun, arriving at the Mexico/Belize border by 6:00 am on Wednesday, December 6.
