By Horace Palacio: Maia James, a 26-year-old mother of two has courageously shared her harrowing experience of surviving a gunshot wound to the head in a shooting incident that claimed the life of 32-year-old Roy Lee Burgess. The shooting occurred on Placencia Road in southern Belize, where Burgess was fatally shot inside a vehicle.

After enduring multiple life-saving surgeries, James has made a remarkable recovery and has now bravely come forward to provide crucial testimony in the case. Her account has led to the identification of the primary suspect, Ellis Meighan, who had gone into hiding following the incident. Meighan was recently apprehended while attempting to illegally enter the United States and is currently detained in San Diego, awaiting deportation to Belize.

In an exclusive interview on the YouTube “Trappin Anonymous,” Channel, James recounted the events of that fateful day. She revealed that she and Burgess had offered Meighan, an acquaintance, a ride to a hotel named Finca outside the village. It was at this location that Meighan allegedly opened fire on Burgess. James described the terrifying ordeal and suggested that the attack on Burgess was fueled by jealousy.

Despite the trauma she has endured, James is determined to testify in court and ensure that justice is served. Belize authorities have confirmed that Meighan remains in U.S. custody, and efforts are underway to expedite his deportation to Belize to face charges related to the shooting.

The case has garnered widespread attention on social media and many are watching closely to see justice prevail and to offer their support to James on her path toward healing and closure.
