By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize welcomes October under mainly fair skies, but forecasters are monitoring an increase in moisture that is expected to influence conditions later tonight. The National Meteorological Service reports that today’s weather will feature sunny skies with cloudy spells, giving way to cloudier conditions tonight. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will remain limited through the day, though southern districts may see slightly more activity. Rainfall is expected to gradually increase along the coast and offshore during the nighttime hours.
Marine conditions remain calm, with east to southeast winds between 5 to 15 knots. Seas will be slight, with waves between one to three feet, allowing for safe navigation for fishers and coastal traffic.
Temperatures will remain warm across the country, peaking at 90°F (32°C) along the coast, 95°F (35°C) inland, and 84°F (29°C) in the hills. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 78°F (26°C) on the coast, 72°F (22°C) inland, and 68°F (20°C) in higher elevations.
Forecasters are keeping an eye on two hurricanes in the Atlantic. At 6:00 a.m., Hurricane Imelda was located about 395 miles west-southwest of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. Hurricane Humberto, at 3:00 a.m., was about 280 miles north-northwest of Bermuda with winds of 80 mph. Both systems pose no threat to Belize.
Looking ahead, moisture is expected to deepen, with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms likely around the country on Thursday and Thursday night.
Tides today will see a low at 12:30 p.m., followed by a high at 6:50 p.m. Another low occurs at 11:08 p.m., and the next high at 5:31 a.m. tomorrow. Sunrise this morning was at 5:43 a.m. with sunset expected at 5:41 p.m. The moon will rise at 1:54 p.m., with moonset at 1:15 a.m.
