By Zoila Palma: Today, the Belize Water Services (BWS) issued a statement saying that it is aware of public concern following the release of the MICS Seven Report by the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
“After discussions with the SIB, it was clear that the sampling, handling and testing procedures used were not aligned with internationally recognized water quality standards, so the results cannot be used to assess national water systems or about specific utilities such as BWS. None of the findings cited in the report originated from BWS’s treatment or distribution systems,” BWS explained.
BWS says that it maintains a rigorous monitoring system, with daily testing across all service areas using accepted international methods, monthly verification by the Public Utilities Commission and the Public Health Department.
BWS says that it also participates in periodic international proficiency assessments to ensure accuracy and sound laboratory practices.
“BWS assures customers that its water remains safe, reliable and fully potable,” the company said.
