By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has officially announced the cancellation of the international friendly between Belize and Venezuela, which had been scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. The decision follows force majeure circumstances, including escalating political, social, and security concerns in the host city—issues that have also disrupted other international fixtures, including Argentina’s.
According to the FFB’s media release dated October 11, match organizers VMG Sports & Entertainment LLC cited deteriorating conditions in Chicago as compromising the safety, logistics, and financial standards required to host the event. Despite efforts to explore alternative venues and rescheduling options, no viable solution was found due to public attendance challenges, operational feasibility, and financial constraints.
“The safety and well-being of our players and coaching staff remain our top priority,” the FFB stated. “While we regret the cancellation, we are committed to pursuing future international opportunities under safe and stable conditions.”
The cancellation mirrors a similar decision by the Argentine Football Association (AFA), which relocated its own friendly against Venezuela—originally set for Friday, October 10 in Chicago—to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Argentina’s move reflects the severity of the situation and the logistical challenges faced by organizers, even for world-class teams.
For Belize, the cancelled fixture was expected to offer valuable exposure for the national team in a North American market with growing interest in Central American football. While the setback is disappointing, the FFB reaffirmed its commitment to international engagement and expressed gratitude to its partners and stakeholders for their support.
As regional federations recalibrate their calendars, Belizean fans remain hopeful that future fixtures will bring the national team to international stages—under conditions that ensure both competitive integrity and personal safety.
