Belize to play Nicaragua, Panama at home in Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in June 2024, 2025

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize will be playing two games in the Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in June 2024 and the other two in June 2025, according to the Concacaf release on the first two rounds of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Belize is in Concacaf Group D in which it will play two games at home and two away since the Concacaf format calls for a single round robin with two games at home and two away for all the group members.

Belize open against Nicaragua at the FFB Stadium in belmopan on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) will then travel to South America to play Guyana on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

After a one year break, the Qualifiers resume on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, when Belize will play away against Montserrat.

Three days later, the BMNT will face Central American powerhouse Panama on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Thirty-two Concacaf men’s national teams will be competing for three direct berths in FIFA World Cup 2026 and two FIFA Play-off Tournament slots, according to the World Cup draw held on January 25 in Zurich, Switzerland.

The entire schedule includes three rounds.

The First Round which includes Concacaf’s four lowest-ranked Member Associations, Turks and Caicos Islands, British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, and Anguilla, will be played in March 2024. Two countries will qualify to join 28 other countries in the second round. The thirty countries have been divided into six groups of five.

The top two teams from each group will qualify to the third round which will consist of 12 teams divided into three groups. That round will be played in September, October, and November 2025. The three group winners qualify directly to the World Cup along with hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The two best second place teams from the three third-round groups will qualify to represent Concacaf in the FIFA Play-off Tournament which will include teams from other confederations.

Concacaf noted that the region could have up to eight teams at the FIFA World Cup if the two who will participate in the FIFA Play-off Tournament qualify.

The following are the six second-round groups:

Group A: Honduras, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Bermuda, Cayman Islands
Group B: Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Bahamas
Group C: Haiti, Curaçao, St. Lucia, Barbados, Aruba
Group D: Panama, Nicaragua, Guyana, Montserrat, Belize
Group E: Jamaica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Winner Play-off 2
Group F: El Salvador, Suriname, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Winner Play-off 1
