By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize will take on Costa Rica in a home-and-away series next month for a chance to secure a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. The matchups were announced by Concacaf as part of the Gold Cup Prelims schedule during the FIFA Match Window in March 2025.
The Gold Cup Prelims feature 14 national teams competing for the final seven berths in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Group Stage. These teams advanced to the Prelims following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League play. The matchups were determined based on Concacaf Rankings as of November 2024, with the highest-ranked team facing the lowest-ranked team.
Belize, ranked 14th, will face off against Costa Rica, ranked 1st, in the Prelims. The first leg will be played at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 8:00 pm local time. The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 7:00 pm local time (same time as Belize) at Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Gold Cup Prelims schedule also includes other exciting matchups:
– Jamaica vs. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
– Honduras vs. Bermuda
– Guatemala vs. Guyana
– Trinidad and Tobago vs. Cuba
– Martinique vs. Suriname
– Nicaragua vs. Guadeloupe
The seven series winners will advance to the Group Stage of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, joining the nine teams that have already secured their spots: Canada, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, Saudi Arabia (guest team), and the United States. The 18th edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup will take place from June 14 to July 6, 2025, across 14 stadiums in 11 metropolitan areas in the United States and Canada.
The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) are preparing rigorously for these crucial matches, hoping to secure a place in this prestigious tournament. The entire nation is eagerly anticipating the upcoming clashes against Costa Rica.
