By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Volleyball Team will be competing in the 20th Central American U-21 Men’s AFECAVOL Championship, to be held at the Papa Francisco Gymnasium in Chitré, Panama, from Friday, October 11 to Thursday, October 17.
All seven Central American countries will be competing. Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama won gold, silver, and bronze, respectively, in the last edition held in Nicaragua in 2022. That was Guatemala’s eighth championship in this age category. According to the Central American Association of Volleyball Federations (AFECAVOL), Costa Rica and Nicaragua have won the crown three times, El Salvador and Panama have won it twice, and Honduras once. Belize is the only country not to have won this tournament yet.
The seven teams arrived in Chitré on Wednesday, October 9, held the preliminary meeting on Thursday, October 10, and the competition will start on Friday, October 11. Three matches will be played daily.
