By Zoila Palma: The Belize Tax Service issued a public notice advising that, effective February 2, 2026, all persons importing goods into Belize must possess and provide a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN).
The requirement forms part of efforts to strengthen compliance and streamline importation procedures nationwide.
According to the notice, the new rule applies to all importers, including one-time and irregular importers, members of the Belizean diaspora returning to reside in the country, and participants in the Qualified Retirement Program (QRP).
The BTS is urging affected individuals and businesses to ensure they are properly registered ahead of any import activity.
Persons who do not currently have a TIN are encouraged to register online through the IRIS Belize platform.
The Belize Tax Service is advising the public to complete registration well in advance to avoid disruptions.
