By Zoila Palma:  Belize showcased its tourism industry at the Central America Travel Market (CATM) 2026 in Guatemala City, where 18 properties and 42 delegates represented the country.

The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) said the event provided an opportunity for local tourism businesses to connect with international travel wholesalers and media, establish business relationships and promote Belize as a regional tourism destination.

With support from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), Belize presented a modular pavilion highlighting the country’s natural attractions, cultural heritage, welcoming communities and hospitality. The BTB also supported a Belize-sponsored closing cocktail, where participants experienced aspects of the country’s gastronomy, culture and music. Tropic Air was also recognized for its partnership and sponsorship of the event.

During CATM 2026, BTIA President Efrén E. Perez, serving as President Pro Tempore of FEDECATUR, signed two memoranda of understanding with the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV) and the International Association of Tourism Cooperation (ASICOTUR). The agreements are expected to create opportunities for BTIA members through familiarization trips, destination webinars and improved access to key tourism markets.

Following the event, BTIA welcomed 15 international travel wholesalers and five members of the international press to Belize for firsthand experiences of the country’s attractions, hospitality and gastronomy.
