By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceño, along with a high-level delegation from Belize, proudly showcased the nation’s cultural richness and development vision during Belize’s National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, held on August 3, 2025.
The delegation also toured both the Belize and Japan pavilions, receiving an enthusiastic reception from international visitors.
“I am filled with pride to see what we, as a small country, produce. Our people are here representing us well on the world stage, and the reception has been overwhelming,” said Prime Minister Briceño while engaging with presenters at the Belize Pavilion.
The official visit to Osaka included a key diplomatic engagement with Yasushi Misawa, Ambassador and Vice Commissioner General of the 2025 World Exposition.
The meeting featured a ceremonial matcha tea tasting, a symbolic gesture of Japanese hospitality and culture.
Prime Minister Briceño was invited to take part in the traditional preparation, further underscoring the warmth of bilateral ties. Discussions also focused on the enduring friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Belize and Japan, especially as both countries continue strengthening collaboration in areas such as trade, tourism, and sustainable development.
Belize’s National Day at the Expo was held under the theme “One Belize, One Purpose: Ecosystem for Life,” reflecting the country’s commitment to sustainability, cultural preservation, and global cooperation.
The day’s program included a flag-raising ceremony, official remarks from Prime Minister Briceño, and captivating cultural performances that celebrated Belize’s multiethnic heritage.
Audiences were treated to Garifuna drumming, Maya dance, and vibrant displays of Creole and Mestizo traditions, alongside informative presentations on investment, tourism, and the blue economy.
“Belize is honored to stand among the nations of the world at Expo 2025 Osaka,” stated Prime Minister Briceño during his keynote address. “This is more than a celebration of our identity; it is a declaration of our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and meaningful global collaboration.” The country’s participation resonated strongly with the Expo’s overarching theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” highlighting Belize’s balanced approach to environmental conservation and economic progress.
The Belize Pavilion, developed in partnership with BELTRAIDE, the Belize Tourism Board, and the Blue Bond Unit, has drawn over 850,000 visitors since opening and will continue welcoming guests until October 15, 2025.
Featuring interactive exhibits, local products, and innovative development models, the pavilion has positioned Belize as a forward-thinking, culturally rich, and environmentally conscious nation.
