By Horace Palacio: Most of Belize is waking up to sunshine and light winds this morning, but weather changes are on the horizon. According to the National Meteorological Service, fair conditions will dominate the day, with only isolated showers expected in select areas. However, an increase in moisture is forecast for later tonight, bringing rain mainly to coastal and offshore areas.
Inland areas will experience hot and dry temperatures, reaching highs of 93°F (34°C), while coastal regions will top out at 86°F (30°C). Cooler temperatures are expected in the hills, around 80°F (27°C).
Mariners should take note of light to choppy seas with waves between 2 to 5 feet, as winds from the north-northeast at 5 to 15 knots persist throughout the day.
The outlook for Wednesday brings increased cloud cover and the possibility of more widespread showers, particularly in central and southern parts of the country. A low chance of thunderstorms also exists during the afternoon. By Wednesday night, most of the rain is expected to subside—except for southern Belize, which could continue to see scattered showers into the overnight hours.
