By Zoila Palma: Belize has requested permission to join South Africa’s case against Israel over its actions in Gaza, according to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The court announced on January 30, 2025, that Belize filed an application to intervene in the case, which was initially brought by South Africa on December 29, 2023.
So far, countries including Nicaragua, Cuba, Ireland, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Turkiye have joined the case.
Belize’s intervention request comes amid growing international attention to the Gaza conflict, which has resulted in significant casualties since Israel’s military operation began on October 7, 2023.
