By Horace Palacio: A meeting held Sunday to address escalating safety concerns in the Belize River Valley brought together Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Area Representative Marconi Leal, and community leaders, resulting in substantial commitments to bolster security.
Commissioner Williams assured residents that the Bermudian Landing police station will be reinforced with additional officers to ensure a 24-hour presence. He also pledged to improve police mobility, facilitating faster response times.
Area Representative Leal echoed the Commissioner’s commitment, announcing the installation of lamp posts across all nine villages to improve visibility and deter crime. He further revealed plans to collaborate with the Kolbe Foundation to engage inmates in community service initiatives, such as clearing vegetation along highways and within villages.
The meeting also addressed youth engagement and community involvement. Commissioner Williams announced the assignment of a police officer to support the youth cadet corps, and discussions centered on revitalizing neighborhood watch programs to empower residents to actively participate in their safety.
Community representatives expressed appreciation for the police’s efforts in reducing loitering and public drinking, acknowledging the positive impact of ongoing collaboration between law enforcement and residents.
This collaborative approach, marked by concrete commitments and community engagement, signals a promising path towards a safer and more secure Belize River Valley.
