By Zoila Palma: Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez, Commander of the Belize Defence Force attended the Conference of American Armies Commanders “Inaugural Session” of the XXXVII Cycle in Asuncion City, Paraguay.
The event was hosted by the Paraguayan Army who holds the Presidency of the XXXVII Cycle of The Conference.
The event was held from February 23 to 27, 2026.
The “Inaugural Session” aimed at hosting Army Commanders from the Western Hemisphere who engaged in discussions on Security Threats affecting the region.
The theme was “Multidimensional Challenges for the Defence and Strategic Security of the Members of the Conference of American Armies”. Additionally, Army Commanders had the opportunity to express matters of Security affecting their nations respectively.
The BDF Commander engaged in bilateral meetings with the Commander of the Barbados Defence Force and Commanding General of U.S Army South to discuss ongoing bilateral collaboration and future opportunities in the areas of capacity building.
Brigadier General Velasquez also engaged in sidebar discussions with Commander in Chief of the Army of El Salvador, Representative form the Jamaican Defence Force and Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Honduras.
