By Zoila Palma:  Mayor Bernard Wagner is participating in the 2025 Forum Cities and Regions for International Partnerships in Brussels.

The event commenced with inspiring exchanges on how Local and Regional Authorities (LRAs) can shape the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, turning global ambitions into local impact.

Representing Belize City and serving as Chairman of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), Mayor Wagner, joined by Councillor Stephanne Hamilton, participated in exchanges featuring Global Gateway project examples,  from sustainable urban mobility initiatives in Costa Rica, to digital transformation in Kenya, and solid waste management innovation in Ecuador.

They engaged with international partners exploring best practices in local governance, climate-ready infrastructure, and partnerships with the private sector, setting the tone for deeper cooperation in the days ahead.

“Belize City continues to stand proudly among global cities, ensuring that small nations have a voice in building a more inclusive, connected world,” a statement from the council said.
