Belize remains hopeful for Schengen visa waiver

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Government of Belize is seeking to work on the possibility of a Schengen visa waiver for Belizeans.

Presently, Belizeans planning to travel to Europe must travel to Mexico and apply for a Schengen visa.

Belize had sought the support of the Member States of the European Union (EU) for Belize to be placed on the list of countries whose nationals do not require a Schengen visa.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca says that they continue to emphasize the importance of that issue to Belize.

“Our ambassador in Brussels has that charge as a priority issue for us so we will continue to engage with them. Every opportunity we get to speak with representatives of countries in the EU, we raise that issue and how critically important it is, so next week I have another meeting with the EU or later this week I think Friday and I will bring that issue up again so we will continue to work very aggressively on that issue,” Fonseca indicated.
