By Zoila Palma: Belize and regional partners are advancing efforts to improve investment facilitation, strengthen business environments, and promote sustainable economic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Investment and Civil Aviation, Narda Garcia, represented Belize at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, on September 16, 2026.
Garcia attended the forum at the invitation of Anabel Gonzalez, Vice President for Countries and Regional Integration, where ministers, ambassadors, and representatives from across the region discussed progress under the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement (IFDA).
Discussions highlighted progress achieved through the IFDA and the growing regional commitment to practical reforms aimed at improving the business climate and strengthening countries’ ability to attract and retain productive investment. Participants emphasized the role of investment in supporting economic growth, productivity, and opportunities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
The forum also focused on strengthening regional cooperation and institutional capacity. Participants expressed interest in establishing a Regional Network for Investment Facilitation and Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean, which would provide a platform for sharing experiences, building institutional capabilities, and mobilizing technical and financial support.
The Inter-American Development Bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country-driven initiative and collaborating with regional governments and stakeholders.
An official invitation is expected to be shared ahead of the Regional Network’s scheduled launch in Panama on October 20, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen regional collaboration, support investment-related reforms, and create conditions for productive investment and sustainable economic development.
