By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Government of Belize, in collaboration with the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee, held a press conference to announce that Belize has emerged as a global leader in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
Following the completion of the 4th Round Mutual Evaluation Report, the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) has certified that Belize has effectively implemented measures to reduce its risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the country, strengthening Belize’s position in mitigating de-risking and improving correspondent banking relations, which had previously threatened its financial stability.
“This outcome is a source of national pride and has strengthened Belize’s position to mitigate de-risking and improve correspondent banking relations, which began to threaten Belize’s financial stability a few years ago,” the Government noted.
