By Zoila Palma: Belize strengthened its global maritime presence this week as representatives participated in the 34th Session of the Assembly, reaffirming its commitment to safe, secure, and sustainable international shipping.

The Belize Port Authority announced its strong support for the national delegation, noting that Belize continues to play an active role in shaping maritime governance worldwide.

Delivering Belize’s National Statement, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-Governance Michel Chebat emphasized collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility as essential pillars for advancing the maritime sector.

His address underscored the nation’s priorities as a maritime regulator—promoting coordinated action to improve safety, strengthen environmental stewardship, and modernize global shipping practices.

Belize reaffirmed its dedication to key objectives, including safeguarding life at sea, protecting marine ecosystems, and advancing credible pathways toward net-zero emissions.

The Belize Port Authority said these goals reflect Belize’s long-term vision for building a safer, greener, and more resilient maritime future through partnerships with IMO Member States, the IMO Secretariat, and industry stakeholders.

The Belize delegation included Minister Chebat; High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Cherie Nisbet; Ports Commissioner Kaylon Young; Director of Technical & Seafarer Services Eduardo Simon; and Technical & Seafarer Manager Anique Sabal.
