By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After an admirable effort against defending champions Mexico on Tuesday, Belize’s U23 Men’s Volleyball Team return to action at 2:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon, facing the Dominican Republic in what promises to be a fierce Group B clash at the 2025 NORCECA U23 Pan American Cup in Guatemala City.

💥 Tough Test Ahead: Dominican Republic’s Momentum

The Dominican Republic, fresh off a dramatic 3–1 upset over the United States (23–25, 26–24, 31–29, 25–16), enter the match as favourites. They are led by standout scorer Adrian Figueroa, who posted 25 points. Belize will have to be sharp in defence and assertive on serve to counter the Dominican Republic’s dynamic attack.

In Tuesday’s opener, outside hitter Figueroa (6) was supported by Ronny Molina (10)  who contributed 16 points. George Bruening (19) and Cameron Thorne (5) led the US with 20 and 15 points respectively.

🇧🇿 Belize Show Resolve

Despite the 1–3 loss to Mexico (31–29, 21–25, 21–25, 22–25), the Belizean squad demonstrated resolve and potential, winning the first set and staying competitive throughout. Eleazar Mejia (12) 🇧🇿—Belize’s co-captain—led the scoring with 17 points through relentless attacks and crucial net plays. Hakan Godoy (7) 🇧🇿 added 10 points in a match that highlighted Belize’s fighting spirit and ability to challenge top-tier opponents.

Team captain Kaelen Ingram anchored Belize’s presence on court, guiding the squad with composure and tactical oversight. Ingram led a spirited squad that refused to back down, pushing Mexico throughout the match.

🔄 Today’s Match is Crucial

The result against the Dominican Republic will play a key role in determining Belize’s chances of advancing beyond the group stage.
A win keeps their path open to the quarter-finals, while defeat would make Friday’s match against the United States all the more decisive. A loss today also means Belize will likely be headed to classification matches.
