By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize U-23 Men’s National Volleyball Team fell in straight sets to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday afternoon, conceding 25–22, 25–16, 25–23 in their second Group B encounter at the 2025 NORCECA U23 Men’s Pan American Cup at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Despite the 3–0 scoreline, Team Belize displayed tenacity and improved court synergy, particularly in the opening and final sets. Captain Kaelen Ingram led with composure under pressure, while co-captain Eleazar Mejia contributed key plays as Belize pushed their opponents in tightly contested rallies.
A spirited first set saw Belize hold pace with the Dominicans, trading serves and blocks until a late surge tipped the set 25–22 in favour of the Caribbean side. The second proved more challenging as Dominican Republic tightened their grip defensively and pulled away to win 25–16. Belize rallied in the third, finding rhythm through centre attacks and outside hits, yet fell narrowly short at 25–23.
The defeat follows Tuesday’s 1-3 opener against Mexico and sets up a demanding clash with the United States on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Domo Polideportivo.
Grouped alongside continental heavyweights, Belize will look to close out group play with grit and pride before potential classification matches on Friday. Regardless of standings, Team Belize’s participation reflects significant strides in national volleyball development and international competitiveness.
