By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize is getting ready to present new commitments on ending violence against children on the world stage.
On Thursday, October 8, the Government held a National Preparatory Session at the Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City. The dialogue was organized by the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, with support from UNICEF and PAHO/WHO.
Government officials, civil society, development partners, technical experts, children and young people took part.
The session will help shape Belize’s position ahead of the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, set for November 18 and 19 in Manila, Philippines.
Participants reviewed progress since the first conference in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2024, where Belize pledged to speed up efforts to end violence against children.
The dialogue focused on taking stock of progress, hearing from children and civil society, identifying achievable actions and building consensus on a national package of commitments.
Minister Garcia-Ramirez said the true measure of success will be what changes for children in Belize after the conference.
“Every child in Belize has the right to grow up safe, protected, and heard,” she said.
