By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After Thursday’s commanding 76–61 performance by the San Pedro Tiger Sharks over the Punta Gorda Panthers, the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) heads into a pivotal weekend with two Saturday matchups that promise major implications for the standings.
Though the Tiger Sharks’ undefeated 9–0 record continues to make headlines, the spotlight now shifts to the rest of the league jockeying for postseason momentum. Saturday night will see a pair of thrilling contests unfold in Cayo and Dangriga.
Saturday, July 12 Matchups
Sacred Heart Auditorium, San Ignacio — 8:00 pm
Cayo Western Ballaz vs Belize City Thunderbolts
Two teams hungry for consistency face off as the Ballaz (3-3) aim to defend home court against a resilient Thunderbolts (4-4) squad looking to rebound and climb in the standings.
Russell “Chiste” Garcia Auditorium, Dangriga — 8:00 pm
EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers vs PG Panthers
The Dream Ballers (5-3) return to action with hopes of revitalizing their season against the struggling Panthers (2-6), who must regroup quickly following their Thursday setback against San Pedro.
The Corozal Cerros Suns (2-5) and the Belmopan Capital City Kings (2-6) are inactive this weekend.
While the Tiger Sharks enjoy a short breather atop the league, all eyes turn to Saturday’s games as the battle for second place intensifies.
