San Pedro heads to Jaguar Finals after dramatic finish in Dangriga

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks are Toucan Cup champions.
In a down-to-the-wire finish at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga, the Tiger Sharks held off a fierce late push from the EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers to win 92–90 and sweep the BPBL Toucan Cup Finals 2–0. The victory sends San Pedro to the BPBL Jaguar Finals, where they’ll face the Mayan Cup winners—either the Cayo Western Ballaz or the Belize City Thunderbolts—whose semifinal series is currently tied 1–1.
Friday night’s Game 2 was a far cry from the Tiger Sharks’ dominant 84–73 win in Game 1 in Belize City. Dangriga came out determined, feeding off the home crowd and pushing the tempo early. Kirk Smith Jr. and Daniel Conorque again led the charge, but San Pedro’s depth and composure proved decisive in the closing minutes.
Jihad Wright, who flirted with a triple-double in Game 1, and Francis Arana continued to anchor the visitors. The Tiger Sharks overcame a late scoring surge from the Dream Ballers and held firm in the final possessions to seal the win.

With the series wrapped, the Tiger Sharks now await the outcome of Saturday night’s Mayan Cup decider between the Ballaz and Thunderbolts. The Jaguar Finals will crown the first-ever champion of the newly rebranded Belize Professional Basketball League (BPBL).
For Dangriga, the loss marks the end of a spirited playoff run. Despite falling short, the Dream Ballers showcased resilience and talent, pushing the top-seeded Tiger Sharks to the brink.
