By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Week 2 of the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) continues as the Belize City Thunderbolts look to build on their strong start, while the Punta Gorda Panthers step onto the court for their season debut.
The action tips off Thursday night at 8:00 pm at the Belize City Civic Center, where the Thunderbolts will aim to make it two wins in a row, while the Panthers hope to make an immediate impact.
Thunderbolts Banking on Their Scoring Leaders
In their season-opening win against the EZ Investment Dream Ballers, the Thunderbolts’ offensive firepower was on full display, led by Tyrone Hall, who delivered a moster performance posting a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds, along with 2 assists and 2 steals.
Joining Hall, Victor Evans put on a show as well, recording 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 9 assists. Matthew Young also made his presence felt with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Eyan Rene provided additional scoring, hitting 15 points on 58.3% shooting. Glency Lopez rounded out the balanced attack with 14 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals, proving instrumental in securing the 101-81 victory.
With these standout performances, the Thunderbolts will aim to replicate their winning formula and keep their early-season momentum alive.
Panthers Step Onto the Court for the First Time
Unlike the Thunderbolts, the Punta Gorda Panthers are still an unknown force in the BPBL. Their first game presents a major opportunity to introduce themselves as serious contenders. The Panthers will need to adjust quickly and find chemistry as they face a Thunderbolts squad already firing on all cylinders.
Other Week 2 Matchups
Following Thursday’s game, two more matchups will take place on Saturday, May 24:
- Dream Ballers vs. Western Ballaz – Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium, Dangriga – 8:00 pm
- Tiger Sharks vs. Thunderbolts – San Pedro High School Auditorium – 8:00 pm
